By: Nathan HooverEvery so often we schedule weekend bridge tours that anyone can join! Whether you're a lifelong Portland resident or visiting for the first time, chances are you'll see and learn something new on these family-friendly excursions. The tour is a full morning, and our route is likely to involve anywhere from two to five miles of walking, with frequent stops. We'll walk a series of bridges, beginning and ending right outside Bowery Bagel in Old Town, 310 NW Broadway and our route will offer a review of the last 129 years of bridge-building in Portland.
Along the way we'll visit the Morrison or Burnside Bridge to meet a bridge operator and hear what that job is like. Your tour guide will piece together the tour while en route, but we may also listen to the song of a singing bridge, test for synchronous vertical excitation, or cross the longest indoor suspension bridge in the U.S. We'll end the tour between 12:30pm and 1pm.
Please let us know to expect you by registering to attend on our tour sign-up page. The tour costs $16 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Cash or check payment accepted at the start of the tour, or gift certificates may be purchased in advance with a credit card. Visit our calendar for a listing of other tour dates, or join our mailing list and follow us on twitter pdxbridgetour to receive announcements about upcoming tours.
